Almost 20 years have passed since the first IFOA agreement was signed in California, led by Sutter Health and industry partners. Since then, more than 20 projects have been delivered under an integrated type of agreement. This year, the first IFOA agreement was signed in the public sector, as legislators changed the public contracting code to allow for multi-party contracts. This was a result of a 14 year-long journey taken by UCSF to prove the effectiveness of collaborative project delivery practices for major capital projects. In this presentation, we will talk about the trajectory of both organizations and reflect on the impact that this shift has caused on the ability to generate value, drive innovation, and change the way our industry traditionally operates. We will share key lessons learned, reflect on the current state, and discuss the future for Integrated Project Delivery, given the emerging trends in technology and supply chain organization.
